After we pick you up from your hotel, we will head for the beautiful town of Elounda, where we will take a small traditional boat. After 20 minutes, we will reach Spinalonga island, whose shape resembles a tear. Spinalonga has 1200-1500 daily visitors during the summer months and is one of the most popular archaeological sites in Crete.
Spinalonga is also known as Leper Island, since patients from Crete and the rest of Greece were quarantined on the island until 1957. Nowadays, thousands of tourists visit Spinalonga every summer by boat from Elounda to observe its destroyed buildings, which the Archaeological Service is working hard to maintain.
